The Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley hosted their "2010-2011 Annual District Governors & District Eye Bank Chairmen Night" on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Gift of Life Building in Philadelphia, Pa. District Governors from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware were invited as guests for dinner, a tour of the facility, and a program featuring keynote speaker Dr. Sadeer Hannush, and his daughter Monica. The two traveled to Kenya, Africa where Dr. Hannush offered to assist a mission in corneal transplants for the needy. His daughter, Monica, also assisted in the maternity ward. A second presentation was made by Master Corporal Damian Vice who gave an account of his personal journey leading to a corneal transplant while he was a teen in High School. Due to the availability of funding from District Lions, Officer Vice went on to become a well respected officer of the law, and volunteers his time to support others facing corneal transplants. Officer Vice also makes numerous presentations to the public. A final recognition was made to Lion PDG Richard Zimmerman who received a 4th Geane Polgar Progressive Award. The Eye Bank of Delaware Valley requests all Lions to sign up with the "I Joined" Donor Registry Program to make a difference through their support of eye, organ and tissue donation at: http://www.ijoined.org |
