Established in 1947, Camp Marcella is looking forward to its 65th season of serving the blind, visually impaired and disabled. Dates have been confirmed and plans are being prepared for the upcoming camping season! Session dates for the BVI campers are July 29th through August 4th and August 5th through August 11th! At this point Camp will be in session from mid-June through mid-August-with the possibility of additional sessions being added!
Requests for applications for this years’ sessions have been coming in since early January-another indication of the success of the programs offered during the summer season! Returning camper families are preparing their summer plans based upon the weeks their children will be attending camp!
Last year 57 blind ,visually impaired and multiply-challenged campers aged 6 through 19 attended the sessions during the first two weeks of August-most of them staying for both sessions! The additional weeks were attended by more than 150 disabled adults!
Our never-ending quest continues to find the 1200 plus blind and visually impaired children ages 6 through 17 that could benefit from the programs offered at Camp Marcella! We, once again, ask that ALL LIONS join in our effort to help us locate these children. If you know of a blind or visually impaired child in your community please ask their family to contact PDG Paula Tarantino by phone: 201-709-4944 or via e-mail: pdgpaula@comcast.net for additional information.
Once again we would like to thank the Lions Clubs for your donations in support of the upkeep of Camp Marcella and also to those clubs who have provided camperships for those children in need of financial assistance. We would also like to thank those clubs that provide barbecue picnics to the children during the camping season and welcome you to continue to do so!
“Looking forward to another fantastic season!!!
